I always try to keep up to date with what is going on in the world, and I am always interested in reading insightful articles and news stories. But, time is precious these days, so I have a filter, my husband. He makes sure I get all the pertinent news of the day including articles like this one that he knows I would be especially interested in.
I’ve read many stories about wives at home during long deployments, but something struck me about this one. You really got a since of what it is like to go without someone to laugh with and enjoy life with. And, you also get a sense of purpose and duty and, most importantly, family, from this couple’s story.

After reading “A Family Apart”, I wanted to call that young mother and reassure her that children are resilient and her family will be back to normal very soon. As a military mother-in-law and grandmother, I was fortunate to be included in my son’s homecoming from Iraq and to witness the reunion of his two sons and daughter. I was surprised at how quickly the children accepted their dad’s return and were soon going about the business of being kids. Perhaps rough spots developed, but nothing long lasting.
I would also like to give this lady a big hug and thank her for sharing her touching story and for serving the nation right along with her husband.
