One of the great childhood substances, mac and cheese is an indispensable tool in the modern mother’s arsenal. It’s soft for toothless little mouths, easy to pick up for learning little fingers, gooey and fun shaped for distractible little minds, and it’s also edible for demanding little tummies.
But, even though we both love it, i always had a small amount of mac and cheese guilt as I tore open the famous blue box. Was this really good for us? Was it down right bad for us? But my daughter loves her mac and cheese. There must be a healthy alternative, and I was going to find it.
Finally, after lots of box reading and taste testing I found Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Macaroni and Cheese. It’s whole wheat pasta, which is a good thing (I usually cook it for a minute or two longer to make it softer.) It says “All Natural” on the box, but I found out that’s a pretty easy thing to be able to pt on your food. But, real cheddar cheese is pretty high up on the ingredient list, and there isn’t a whole lot of words I can’t pronounce on that list. But the best thing of all… it actually tastes great! It’s creamy and mild and a little tangy. Mama likes it with a little salt and pepper. My toddler likes it with some cut up veggies. And, it’s even got a blue box.
